Attention deficit test should be done

Home Health Guide Attention deficit test should be done

Gonca Malkoç Ari, Clinical Psychologist at Private Ümit Vişnelik Hospital, pointed out that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a problem that can be seen in both children and adults and provided information about treatment methods.

Clinical Psychologist Ari explained that ADHD is a psychological disorder characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, and attention and concentration problems. Families may observe complaints such as difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, inefficiency in time management, boredom with studying, and an inability to focus on lessons. However, Gonca Malkoç Ari emphasized that not every child showing these symptoms is diagnosed with ADHD. She explained, “Sometimes these symptoms may arise due to various physical disorders. Therefore, in order to diagnose ADHD, the symptoms should persist for at least 6 months, and the child must exhibit the same behavior not only at home and school but also in every environment they enter.”

PROFESSIONAL HELP NEEDED

Ari also noted that ADHD is a problem seen in adults as well. She listed the symptoms in adults as follows: “Inability to stay still, poor time management, outbursts, and difficulty managing relationships, especially in marriage.” Ari mentioned, “It can lead to significant issues. ADHD is a disorder that can cause severe academic, psychological, and social problems in an individual's life.”

OR DRUG TREATMENT

Regarding ADHD treatment, Ari explained that the approach differs between adults and children. “In general, a psychologist specializing in this field investigates the cause of hyperactivity in the child or adult, the reasons behind the attention deficit, and the level of these disorders. Based on this assessment, a treatment plan is formed, either with or without medication.” She further stated, “We use tests to measure parameters such as attention, time management, and hyperactivity. The test can be applied to children over 6 years old, with separate versions for children and adults. The child’s test takes around 15 minutes, while the adult version takes 18 minutes. If you or your child are experiencing these difficulties, taking this test promptly will help you request the attention test.”
